October hot spell continues: Spain weather forecast Oct 2-5
The unseasonably high temperatures will continue in almost all of Spain this coming week
It might be the beginning of October, but in most of Spain this past weekend felt like mid-summer and the unseasonably high temperatures look set to continue for the next few days at least. Large parts of southern Spain hit the high 30s on Sunday October 1 and a similar trend will be followed on Monday, with both Cantabria and the Basque Country on yellow alert for temperatures that will climb close to 40ºC.
In the rest of the country, while it won’t be a scorcher of August standards, the mercury will still tip the low to mid-30s during what promises to be a mostly dry, bright and sunny week pretty much across the board.
Monday October 2
Largely pleasant weather is forecast in much of Spain and the Balearic Islands on Monday with mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies. As usual, western Galicia can expect some cloud cover and scattered showers, with could extend to other areas of the northwest later in the afternoon.
There will also be an overcast start in the Mediterranean and the Balearics with some haze and fog.
The nighttime temperatures will remain largely unchanged but exceptionally high values will continue at the height of the day, with the thermometers tipped to exceed 34-36ºC in the southwest of the country.
Cantabria and the Basque Country have been issued with a yellow heat alert while Andalucia has a yellow warning for rough seas from 8am onwards.
Tuesday October 3
An Atlantic front will bring some dramatic changes to northern Spain on Tuesday in the form of plummeting temperatures and widespread, albeit weak, rain in Cantabria and Galicia. The stable weather will prevail in the rest of the country though, and mostly clear skies are forecast throughout.
It will be overcast in the Mediterranean early on again but this should clear quickly, although the cloud cover will actually increase later in the day inland.
Night-time temperatures should begin to fall in the north but remain the same elsewhere. On the other hand, the daytime temperatures will continue to creep up in the Canary Islands while dipping a little along the southeastern coasts. The drop in temperatures will be especially noticeable in the Cantabrian area, northern Iberia and the upper Ebro.
Despite these decreases, the temperatures will remain very high for the season in large parts of the country.
Wednesday October 4
Slightly cloudy skies will be the order of the day on Wednesday but there’s practically no rain on the horizon with the exception of Cantabria, which is likely to get some scattered showers. Weak rainfall is also a possibility in Valencia and along the Strait.
A foggy and overcast start in the Mediterranean and inland southeast will give way to another mostly clear day with daytime temperatures remaining largely unchanged. The night will be considerably cooler in the southeast of the country.
Thursday October 5
Stable and dry weather will prevail in much of the country, with slightly cloudy skies or intervals of high clouds in most places. However, the early morning will be especially overcast in Galicia, eastern Cantabria, Catalonia and along the southeast coast of Malaga, while some showers are a possibility in the Strait area.
The temperatures will tend to increase in northern Spain, the interior of the Valencian Community and the western Canary Islands, easily tipping the high 30s in the extreme south.
