New beach playgrounds coming to San Pedro
Flamingo and sealife-themed children’s apparatus will be installed at north and south ends of Playa Villananitos
San Pedro del Pinatar is getting two new children’s playgrounds installed on Playa de Villananitos.
The council says the aim is to position the town as a “tourist destination for families, improve its ranking for tourism, diversify what it has to offer tourists and encourage the creation of new experiences”.
According to the details of the contract, which was put out to tender on June 19, there will be one at the north end of the beach and another at the south end.
Companies have until July 4 to lodge their bids, which can have a maximum budget of €29,997 (plus IVA/VAT), which is being financed by the EU Next Generation recovery fund.
Once the contract has been awarded and signed, the selected bidder will have 60 days to complete the project.
The town hall has been very specific about what facilities the playgrounds will have to include, and their appearance.
Each one must have three spring riders, in the forms of a seahorse, a starfish and a squid; a see-saw and a slide, both in the form of flamingos; and a climbing frame with two towers, a walkway between them, a slide, and a climbing net and a climbing wall, also in the form of a flamingo, specifically “Mingo”, the council’s mascot for children’s and family activities.
The terms also state that the town hall will monitor the work and the facilities to ensure that the concessionary fulfills its obligations, otherwise the contract could be rescinded.
The contractor will be responsible for any harm or damage to people or goods, direct or indirect, which could happen as a result of acts, omissions or negligence of its personnel or deficient organisation of its supplies.
In this sense, the selected bidder would have to repair, at its own cost, any public or private services that may be affected, and pay any compensation to anyone who may be affected.
The company will also have to adopt all necessary safety measures to ensure that people, including its own employees, council workers and members of the public, are not hurt by the loading and unloading jobs while the work is underway, amongst other conditions.
Promenade revamp project
Furthermore, San Pedro town hall has published a preliminary report for a project to maintain and improve Lo Pagán seafront promenade.
This will also be financed by the EU Next Generation fund, with a total of €620,000 to remodel the esplanade, including new paving and lighting, adding and restoring natural areas, and creating a Sendero Azul (blue pathway) to appreciate nature and facilities for cyclists.
