The Region of Murcia was placed on yellow alert by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) yesterday, Monday May 6, for thunderstorms in the afternoon, and there was heavy rain in many parts of the Region at around 7pm.
But what was something of a surprise for everyone was the hail.
In Murcia capital city, the heavy rain was accompanied for a while by small hailstones falling from the sky. The hailstorm didn’t last for long – just a few minutes – but it was powerful.

Aemet’s storm warning lasted from 3pm to 10pm yesterday, a classification which they explained means that heavy storms are expected in the affected area and that there is the possibility that storms of greater intensity may occur from time to time.
The Forest Fire Defence Unit of the Region of Murcia (UDIF) had to respond to a small wildfire that was started by a lightning strike in Calasparra in the north.
It comes shortly after another forest fire had to be extinguished by helicopters in central Murcia this weekend.
For the rest of the week, the weather forecast is for calm and sunny weather, with temperatures rising towards the end of the week.
