VIDEO: Major fire breaks out at Santa Lucía Hospital in Cartagena
Several floors of the hospital had to be evacuated, but luckily no one was harmed and the blaze was put out in just 20 minutes

The Santa Lucía Hospital in Cartagena caught fire at 7.15am this Wednesday morning, November 26, forcing the evacuation of several floors after flames rapidly spread along the façade of block five.
Mercifully, not one single casualty or injury was reported, although the structure of the building has suffered extensive material damage.
Strong winds helped the flames spread quickly to the third and fifth floors, burning the exterior wall in just a few minutes. Smoke and flames were visible from several kilometres away.
Hospital managers immediately activated the self-protection and emergency plan. Four wards were evacuated: the second, third, fourth and fifth. Patients and medical staff were moved to other parts of the hospital while firefighters worked to contain the blaze. Access to the hospital was temporarily restricted by police for safety reasons.
Heroes from Cartagena’s fire brigade brought the situation under control in an incredible 20 minutes, and by 8am the flames had been extinguished.
The reasons behind the fire starting remain under investigation. Early indications suggested that the damage was confined mainly to the exterior façade.
The Murcia Health Service has confirmed that work is under way to rehouse patients from damaged areas.
Although the regional government placed fire planes and personnel from the Firefighting and Rescue Consortium on standby, their assistance was ultimately not required due to the rapid intervention of local services.
This is the second fire of its kind at Santa Lucía Hospital in 10 years. A previous incident destroyed part of block one after a poorly extinguished cigarette butt ignited façade materials.
Officials are now assessing the extent of the latest damage while investigators work to determine how the fire started.
