The urban art of Los Alcázares goes global
360-degree virtual tours of the stunning murals in the town of Los Alcázares
The burgeoning fame of the urban art which every year adorns more and more buildings in the Mar Menor town of Los Alcázares has now become a tourist attraction which can be accessed from anywhere in the world, thanks to the unveiling of a new 360-degree virtual tour experienced which can be accessed here and through the municipal tourism site.
Initially the tour consists of a selection of just 20 of the more than 200 works included in the current urban art catalogue of Los Alcázares, but it represents another step forward in the use of EU Next Generation funds to bring tourism up to date and make it a more sustainable sector, as María José Díaz, the Councillor for Tourism underlined in her presentation of the initiative.
While using the new feature, virtual visitors can choose any of the 20 murals featured through an index and view the high-resolution 360-degree images featured, all of them faithfully representing the original colours, textures and details. In addition, each mural is accompanied by an audio avatar, presenting the painting and giving information about the artist and the techniques used as well as any relevant background information. If the avatar annoys you (and he might, especially bearing in mind he doesn’t speak English!) you can just click to remove him from the screen!
Another feature is the inclusion of subtitles for the hard of hearing and an easy-read version and the program can also be accessed by using QR codes on the street signs placed next to each of the works selected.
If you want to see the murals first hand, there are regular guided cycling tours (it’s not a hard ride!) on the “Evening Safari” route, held every other month.
For more local information in English, including news, what’s on and visiting advice, contact the tourist offices in Los Alcázares (main telephone number 968 575756) or go to the home page of Los Alcázares Today.
