The Pasarela foot bridge in Puerto Lumbreras
The Pasarela is one of two bridges built in Puerto Lumbreras as part of the Muelles del Puerto project
The bridges which are commonly referred to as the “Pasarelas” in Puerto Lumbreras take pedestrians and road traffic over the Rambla de Nogalte, the normally dry river bed running through the town centre which on occasion can overflow to devastating effect, joining the old quarter below the remains of the castle and the larger area on the north-eastern side of the Rambla.
These bridges are part of the “Muelles del Puerto” project which was designed by architect Martin Lejárrega, and serve to reduce the number of people walking and driving through the rambla itself on the main street of Puerto Lumbreras. At the eastern end of the town Lejárrega’s bridge carries the N-340 road as it bypasses the town centre, while the pedestrian bridge is in a more central location.
The Muelles del Puerto project was carried out in 2006 and 2007, since when the two bridges have become one of the most iconic sights in Puerto Lumbreras as they span the Rambla de Nogalte.
From time to time the pasarela is also used for events.
The easiest landmark to find is the office of Aqualia which lie opposite one end of the pasarela and Calle del Caño at the other.
