Record attendance at the unforgettable Los Mayos 2024 celebrations in Alhama de Murcia
More than 18,000 people flocked to Alhama de Murcia for this unique festival heralding the arrival of spring
The spirit of community and celebration was alive and well in Alhama de Murcia over the last couple of weeks, as the Los Mayos 2024 festivities drew a record-breaking crowd of more than 18,000 attendees. According to data provided by the Local Police, this year saw a significant increase in visitors from both within and outside the municipality – a testament to the successful promotional campaign organised by the Town Hall and its partners.
From its eye-catching debut at the Tourism Institute of the Region of Murcia (ITREM), to its widespread advertising across various media platforms, the Los Mayos fiestas captured the attention of locals and tourists alike. New additions such as the Mayos Burger Fest, the Wizard of Oz concert and the MayFest music festival proved particularly popular, drawing crowds from far and wide.
Of course, no trip to Alhama would be complete without experiencing its unique cultural traditions. Visitors were treated to the lively rhythms of the Corremayos parade, featuring traditional music by Malvariche, while longstanding customs like Los Mayos and the Cruces de Mayo offered a glimpse into the heart and soul of the town.
Meanwhile, the bustling craft market featured more than 30 stalls offering everything from locally made goods to delicious food and drink, and thanks to the tireless efforts of the Local Police and Guardia Civil, as well as the civil protection volunteers, the festivities passed without incident or disruption.
Mayor María Cánovas took time to express her gratitude to all involved, highlighting the hard work of the municipal brigade, cleaning service and technical staff. She also extended her appreciation to the countless volunteers and community members who helped bring the festival to life, as well as supporting businesses like Moyca and ElPozo King.
Finally, Mayor Cánovas looked ahead to future celebrations, inviting everyone to attend the upcoming 32nd annual Alhama Los Mayos 2024 Custom Motorcycle Rally.
Featuring live performances by Mojinos Escozios, Formula V, Paco Pastor, Marcos Elvis and Los Happys, plus a special tour for participants visiting the PrimaFrío logistics plant and the El Pozo Alimentación factory, this year’s rally promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
