Norwegian fugitive arrested in Orihuela following seven years of abuse towards partner
The suspect was caught when he turned up at the Orihuela Costa Foreigners Office last week
A violent fugitive, accused of habitually mistreating and abusing his partner both physically and psychologically, has been arrested in Orihuela. The Norwegian man was subject to a European Arrest and Surrender Order for a seven year reign of terror that included crimes of vandalism, threats, degrading treatment and violation of a restraining order.
The fugitive was caught when he went to the Orihuela Costa Foreigners Office to request some documentation. As soon as the National Police officers on duty ran his details, they realised there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest that had been issued last month by the Norwegian authorities.
As he is considered highly dangerous, officers from both the Orihuela Local Police and the National Police coordinated the arrest.
According to official reports, between the years of 2017 and 2023, the wanted man continually physically assaulted his long-term partner, threatened her with knives and firearms and emotionally abused her on a daily basis. The detainee completely controlled his victim, determining what she ate, how she dressed, when she could sleep or leave their home. Even after the Norwegian courts issued restraining orders, the suspect violated them repeatedly.
As if this were not enough, the detainee went so far as to publish personal information on social networks about several witnesses who were summoned to testify against him at trial in Norway.
The detainee, 38 years old and of Norwegian nationality, was placed at the disposal of the Central Investigative Court of the National Court, which is in the process of finalising his extradition from Alicante.
