May 1 Public meeting announced by Camposol Legal Platform Against Biogas
The Camposol Legal Platform Against Biogas calls a public meeting to explain the next steps after the recently commissioned report
In the wake of the technical report commissioned by the Camposol Legal Platform Against Biogas into the plans submitted to the regional government for a proposed biogas plant situated 1.1 kilometres from the Camposol urbanisation, a public meeting has been announced at 7.00pm on Friday May 1 at the Casa Club in Camposol Golf Club.
The report, costing around 6,000 euros and carried out by specialist company Método Ambiental Consultants SL, raises serious concerns about the legality and viability of the proposed biogas plant and the intent is to use it to oppose the project in its proposed location. As the Camposol Legal Platform point out “the report puts us in a very strong position, but the outcome is by no means certain and we would ask the homeowners and residents to give their support to the cause in ways that will be explained at the meeting”.
The report has already been lodged with the Regional Government (CARM) as evidence in opposition to the plant’s planned location, but as the biogas initiative is promoted by CARM the possible impact is uncertain. Although the Mazarrón Council Pleno meeting approved a motion of opposition to the biogas project in September 2025, put forward by the political group PSOE, the motion was only carried because the other parties abstained from voting.
In view of the situation with regard to Mazarrón Council it may be that a further motion will have to be put forward to reinforce the planning stipulations in reference to Biogas plants, something that is lacking at both municipal and regional level. This is one of the points to be expanded on at the meeting on May 1.
The Camposol Legal Platform Against Biogas stresses that it supports biogas plants as part of the circular economy, however these plants should not be in locations that would adversely impact the quality of life of local residents and homeowners or the natural environment, as identified in the report.
