The Mar Menor ferry is up and running once again, resuming its unbeatable maritime transport line between Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga del Mar Menor on Monday July 1. With Niurka Baños at the helm, this hugely popular service sets sail once more, offering scenic rides and convenient connections right in time for summer.
This ferry service, which will now operate all year round, provides a unique way to explore the Mar Menor. With four daily departures from each shore, passengers can enjoy a relaxing ride and take in the stunning views.
The initial schedule includes departures from Tomás Maestre port at 10.15am, 12.30pm, 4.30pm and 6.30pm, with return trips from the pier on Santiago de la Ribera’s Barnuevo beach every two hours, starting at 11.30am until 7.30pm.
As a special bonus, there will also be a night-time service during summer festivals.
San Javier's mayor, José Miguel Luengo, along with the Councillor for Transportation, Héctor Verdú and the Councillor for Tourism and Beaches, Estíbaliz Masegosa, welcomed the first journey of this service.

Mayor Luengo expressed his enthusiasm for the reopening, stating that it is “good news, not only for San Javier but for the entire Mar Menor and even for the Region of Murcia.”
He emphasised the unique experience the ferry ride offers, even for locals looking for a summer excursion. It has also proven very popular with cyclists keen to explore the Mar Menor, who can easily transport their bikes from one pier to another.
Niurka Baños, the patron of the Mar Menor Ferry, explained that the plan going forward is to extend the initial hours and schedule of the ferry as demand increases.
Tickets, priced at 6 euros each way, are free for children under 4. Passengers can also bring their bicycles, scooters, strollers and even pets onboard for a small additional fee.
The journey takes 40 minutes and tickets can be purchased on board.

Oficina de Turismo de San Javier
The municipality of San Javier has three main offices giving tourist information to visitors, as well as two information points. The tourist offices are located in Santiago de la Ribera, on the ground floor of the town hall in San Javier and at the start of La Manga. There is also a summer tourist information point located on the seafront in Santiago de la Ribera as well as one at kilometre 12-13 of La Manga del Mar Menor next to Playa Mistral.
Due to its location on the fringes of the Mar Menor and Mediterranean, San Javier has a period of intense summer tourism activity during the peak summer months, although it is popular with retirees of all nationalities out of peak season.
Tickets for the annual San Javier Jazz Festival can be purchased at the Festival office in San Javier Town Hall, Plaza de España.
