ARCHIVED - Major improvements planned at the Alhama Signature golf course in Condado de Alhama
Course improvements, a top quality clubhouse and tourist accommodation in the pipeline as part of the Alhama Nature Resort project
Further information has now emerged regarding the sale and purchase of the golf course in Condado de Alhama, with the new owners committed to maintaining and significantly improving not only the course itself but also the clubhouse, the tourist accommodation and other facilities in Condado as they create the “Alhama Nature Resort”, .
It was reported in early January that the golf course had been sold to a local management company, Alhama Healthy Living SL, and this has now been confirmed to Spain Today Online. As soon as the purchase was finalized fears that the course would close were quelled, and indeed the facility has not been closed even for one single day despite the change in ownership.
In fact, during January 2023 approximately 1,400 golfers enjoyed the Alhama Signature course (one of only three in Spain classified as such by the Nicklaus design company), more than in the last comparable pre-pandemic year (1,200 in January 2020).
Meanwhile, there have been some concerns about the condition of the course itself, but the new owners are committed to top level greenkeeping and course maintenance: although the fairways are currently a long way from the lush green many would expect, they are playing true, and the greens are in excellent condition as the course managers wait until the spring to begin using fertilizers and other treatments.
This commitment is further underlined by the intention to build the luxurious clubhouse which was promised when Condado was first marketed and built but which never materialized, and at the same time an aparthotel complex is planned to accommodate visiting golfers for short stays. At present the intention is for some apartments and villas to be offered as accommodation for up to 400 people, but the new management is understandably reluctant to reveal exact details until plans have been finalized and approved.
In addition, a golf school is to be created to cater for both adults and children, stimulating interest not only in the course but in the properties which line it in Alhama Nature Resort.
When the purchase of the Alhama Signature course was announced the new owners, Alhama Healthy Living SL, stated that “it is our target that Alhama Signature once again be a benchmark course not only in the Region of Murcia but also at a national and international level: a Nicklaus Signature course deserves to be at the highest level.”
Just a few weeks later, it seems that the plans for the Alhama Nature Resort are to make this promise a reality as soon as possible!
