Elderly man and his dog perish in Costa Blanca house fire
The flames burned the house in San Miguel de Salinas to the ground
A man and his pet have tragically lost their lives in a fire which tore through a bungalow in the Costa Blanca town of San Miguel de Salinas on Tuesday April 30.
Firefighters were called to the home at around 12 noon but when they tried to enter the property, they were met by a wall of dense black smoke that made it difficult to locate the elderly man and his dog.
Eventually, the two bodies were removed and firefighters worked to control the flames, which completely devoured the property on Calle Los Rosales on the Mirador del Mediterraneo urbanization.
In order to extinguish the blaze, the Provincial Firefighters Consortium of the Alicante Provincial Council mobilised a command unit (UMJ), a heavy urban pump (BUP) and a ladder truck with a sergeant, a corporal and five firefighters from the Torrevieja fire brigade.
The victim, a 57-year-old man with an intellectual disability, lived in the bungalow with his brother, who was not at home at the time the fire broke out in the kitchen/living room.
