Beware! Weather warnings upgraded to red alert for Friday: Alicante weekend weather forecast October 9-12
Severe rain and storm warnings in place for three days, but where and when are they likely to hit?
The heaviest rain is expected on Friday
For this bank holiday to celebrate Valencia Day in the region today and Spain Day on Sunday, state meteorological agency Aemet has issued warnings for very heavy and persistent rain, as well as storms, right across the south-east corner of Spain, including Alicante province.
These warnings are yellow for the interior and orange right up and down the coast.
The orange warnings remain in place all day on Friday, but have just been upgraded to a red alert for southern coastal areas between 10am and midnight, indicating extraordinary risk.
The severity drops around lunchtime on Saturday, but cloudy intervals and showers are likely to persist throughout the weekend.
Of course, the situation is unstable and prone to change so some areas will be affected worse than others.
Keep an eye out for updates and take precautions just in case, as the worst-case scenarios could pose a significant risk to people and property.
More unsettled weather and rain is predicted next week so keep your umbrella handy.

there is a 40-70% chance of up to 100mm of rain by midnight tonight.
Only slight changes to minimum temperatures and maximums are lower than yesterday.
Light, variable winds in the morning then predominantly north-easterly from midday, occasionally becoming stronger.

Skies overcast or cloudy again. Locally heavy or very heavy and persistent downpours, accompanied by storms, are more probable and intense along the coast.
Orange rain and storm warnings remain all day for the north, where there is the same 40-70% chance of up to 100mm (or up to 140mm in the north) of rain over a 12-hour period.
This could include particularly heavy spells of up to 60mm within a single hour.
The red alert for the south of the province from 10am is even more potentially dangerous with up to 180mm of rain over 12 hours, but currently there is still only a yellow warning for the interior.
Slight changes to minimum temperatures and maximums are lower in the interior but unchanged elsewhere.
Light, variable winds for the first few and last hours of the day, tending to be north-easterly in the central hours, light in the interior and light to moderate on the coast, occasionally becoming more intense.
