Condado Today is a website set up by Murcia Today specifically for residents of the urbanisation in Southwest Murcia, providing news and information on what’s happening in the local area, which is the largest English-speaking expat area in the Region of Murcia.

The last weekend of April sees the villages of Las Cañadas and La Molata enjoyoing their traditional annual fiestas in honour of the Virgen de la Cabeza, the program having been announced as follows:
Thursday April 25
20.30: Subastao competition and festive gathering of young people.
Friday April 26
20.00: The partying begins as the bells are tolled and rockets let off, with the opening speech at 20.30 and the opening of a photography exhibition at 20.45.
21.00: Migas making competition.
Midnight: Music from Trío Jema to end the evening.
Saturday April 27
16.30: Caliche tournament in La Molata.
18.00: 4x4 cars display and motorcycle races in Molata.
18.00: Zumba masterclass Zumba by Animuni at the sports field of La Molata.
19.00: A gymkhana of traditional games for grown-ups and children at the sports field of La Molata.
21.30: An evening of music and dancing with Quinteto Quimera.
22.30: The fiestas queens are awarded their sashes and the evening ends with music from Quinteto Quimera.
Sunday April 28
The bells are tolled early in honour of the Virgen de la Cabeza.
The fiesta Queens reach the church with music from the Maestro José Antonio Ayala society.
12.00: Holy Mass with singing by the Hermandad del Rocio de Lorca and ”Los Romeros de Lebor”. This is followed by the procession of the figure of the Virgen de la Cabeza through the village.
14.00: The music begins as the giant paella is prepared, to be served at 14.30 at the sports field of La Molata.
15.00: Trampolines and games for children.
16.00: Live entertainment from Larry.
17.30: Live entertainment from Filiu in La Molata.
21.00: Churros and hot chocolate for all those present.
22.00: The fiestas end with a small firework display, but there are more events planned over the next 6 weeks:
Saturday May 18
12.00: Local football derby, Las Cañadas v. La Costera in La Molata.
Sunday May 19
10.00: Cultural route to the Almacén del Esparto, registration 8 euros for adults and 5 euros for children: via WhatsApp on 685 372146.
Sunday June 2
7.30: Rural hike in Las Cañadas de Alhama following the “Ruta del Esparto”. This is not an easy 16-kilometre walk and is likely to take around 4 and a half hours as participants make their way up to the antennae of the Sierra de Carrascoy. To register please call Paco Robles on 659 608965 (free of charge) and don’t forget to take plenty of drinking water.

Alhama de Murcia Tourist information office is located on the edge of the Plaza de la Constitución, just a few metres away from the underground car park and the Town hall of Alhama de Murcia.
The tourist office offers free guided audiotours in English which take visitors around the historical sites of interest in Alhama. These be loaned at any time, although allow an hour and a half to complete the tour, and when loaning the audio equipment visitors are asked to leave passports or ID cards with the tourist office.
The office also carries a full range of leaflets for the archaeological museum of Los Baños, which is built around the historic spa which gives Alhama its name, and the mountains of Sierra Espuña, which is also an important area within the municipality of Alhama. Areas such as El Berro and Gebas have a number of interesting routes which can be followed and there are several picnic areas and good walking routes within the Sierra Espuña natural park.
The tourist office also carries leaflets for the many cultural events and fiestas which take place in Alhama throughout the year, including Los Mayos, Semana Santa, Christmas,the Romería of La Candelaria and the Auto de los Reyes Magos in El Berro.
