Alicante province escapes heatwave: Weekend weather forecast August 7-10
Costa Blanca beaches should remain around 30-32ºC but stifling nights set to continue
The heatwave gives Alicante province a break
No significant changes are expected in the weather for the province as we go into the second weekend of August, according to State Meteorological Agency Aemet.
Alicante is set to escape the worst of the heatwave that has been baking many other parts of Spain, such as neighbouring Murcia where many places will be approaching 40ºC today.
Thursday August 7
The highs are not too high on the coast today
Maximum temperatures up and down the Costa Blanca are no longer expected to be quite as high as was forecast on Monday, peaking from 2pm at 30ºC in Torrevieja and Guardamar del Segura, 29ºC in Santa Pola, Benidorm and Denia, and 31ºC in Alicante city and Calpe.
The highs rise gradually into the mid-30s the further you go inland, up to a scorching 37ºC in Villena.
Variable breezes in the morning will give way in the afternoon to a predominantly easterly wind of up to 15km/h, with a little haze or cloud later on.
Friday August 8
Enjoy some cool breezes in the morning
The skies should mostly be clear on Friday too, until some cloudy intervals in the afternoon, and temperatures are not expected to change much, apart from slightly lower maximums inland.
The coast can expect more moderate winds from the east, particularly in the south, where it may reach about 26km/h in the morning, dropping to around 20km/h in the afternoon but considerably lighter in the north.
The nights will probably not drop below a stifling 25ºC on the coast, making it difficult to sleep yet again, except around Denia and Jávea where it should be two or three degrees cooler.
Saturday August 9
Saturday is looking hot day and night
A similar picture is forecast for Saturday, with mostly clear skies in the morning and some cloud in the afternoon but clearing again after 6pm in the north.
Highs of 31ºC are predicted up and down most of the Costa Blanca, and 32ºC in the far north, rising sharply inland to 35 or 36ºC in cities like Elche and Orihuela respectively, and up to 37ºC again in Villena.
Only very light breezes are expected throughout the day and minimum temperatures are not due to fall by more than 1ºC.
Sunday, August 10
Feel the sunshine on Sunday
The lack of wind will continue into Sunday, when much of the coast will bask in 30ºC sunshine, rising to 32ºC in the far north of the province and 35-36ºC in many places inland.
The skies should remain very clear all day and the temperature at night is likely to drop very slightly again to around 23ºC along the coast and 19-21ºC further north inland.
