ARCHIVED - Alhama de Murcia presents the ALHAMA NATURE residential and sports complex in Condado de Alhama
The initiative, which is being carried out in conjunction with Alhama de Murcia Council, includes five football pitches for training and a stadium with capacity for 3,500 people together with new residential spaces in the Condado urbanisation
A business consortium based in the Region of Murcia has acquired multiple plots of land in phase 1 of the Condado de Alhama urbanisation, totalling more than 250,000 m2, as well as the 915,000 m2 Jack Nicklaus designed golf course, with a plan to reactivate the residential tourism project in the area. The Town Council has granted building permits for the first homes, which are already underway.
On Monday March 13, the Mayoress of Alhama, Mariola Guevara, along with those responsible for the different areas of business, presented the investment project ‘Alhama Nature’, which is “so important for the town [and] which will provide employment and wealth, as well as a perfect complement to the tourism offered in the municipality, which will soon also have an attractive and healthy element such as the new spa in the urban centre”.
The man in charge of Alhama Nature, Mariano Sánchez, explained the work process of the last five years with the Alhama Town Hall which has now come to fruition. In this sense, he stressed that it is an “integrative project, which aims to serve all levels of society and put the prosperity of this area and all the possibilities that surround it on the map”, while praising Alhama as a municipality which is “an industrial frontrunner that has managed to house some very important companies in the Region and some future possibilities to enable it to carry out a social project, of life, something beyond a mere residential project”.
Residential area
The project includes various plots in the urbanisation that will be dedicated to building new homes such as apartments, bungalows and villas, which are aimed at both national buyers as well as those from central and northern Europe. For foreigners, Alhama is an excellent location to move to in Spain because of its strategic location close to large cities, the sea and natural spaces such as Sierra Espuña. It also has easy connections by road with the main regional infrastructures, such as Corvera Airport.
The objective of the new project is to create a model for healthy living where “wellbeing, basic services, nature and sport are the axes of all activities, in order to generate the state of comfort to which any person aspires and desires”. This is reflected in the slogan chosen to present this project: ‘The life you deserve’.
Sports area
‘Alhama Nature’ acquired the existing golf course in Condado to guarantee the viability of the development, as well as to give it a new boost as an attractive element of sports tourism for residents and visitors. The development manager is Lola López, a known name in the management of golf courses. López explained the medium-term expectations of the renowned ‘Alhama Signature Golf’ course, built under the supervision and design of ex-golfer Jack Nicklaus.
“No course in Spain has such a large plot or such a well-organised plot for practicing this marvellous sport,” she said, and went on to list the specifications of this extensive area: five large lakes, wide fairways, rapids, 116 bunkers and landscaping that preserves the native flora of the local environment.
The company will invest 2.5 million euros for the construction of the ‘Alhama Arena’ football (soccer) centre with five training fields to house more than 100 teams a year and which can be used by 30,000 people, where fifty matches can be played. This is in addition to a main stadium with capacity for 3,500 spectators.
Fran de Paula, who is responsible for building the football area, explained that this project “shows how far the future can go and what the possibilities are for sport in the town”. He highlighted the name of Alhama and said it might be possible to host large clubs and federations at the Arena, which he has described as “a business that is tangible and real”, and which will bring in “media and advertising potential that only football generates”.
Finally, he highlighted why the team has opted for the municipality of Alhama after “having tried to find new possibilities for growth and we realised that the most interesting with real potential was on our doorstep”.
Alhama will become a benchmark for sports tourism with the creation of the brand ‘Football Destination’. In addition, it will be linked to the local football sports associations to make use of the facilities.
This is a project already consolidated in other locations under the ‘Pinatar Arena’ brand, which will allow it to use the same marketing network to attract national and international teams.
Hotel
Together with this sports development, a hotel and tourist accommodation development is planned with sufficient capacity to house visiting football teams, golf players and – during the summer months – covering the needs of national tourism. This complex is estimated to exceed more than 30,000 overnight stays per year.
